Interesting concept, I hope the styling would make it lower and wider though.

Just read it, interesting concept and I tend to agree with the authors assessment of the Z Gen's tastes. Porsche should do a concept prototype and put it out there as they did with the Boxster, see if the calls come out for them to build it.

Porsche is into building high end cars with a high profit margin. There is no reason for them to build a less expensive model, if anything, it would devalue their high end product. The intro Porsche isn't going to happen.

They are 100% loosing the young generation.... Have you guys seen the median age group of the PCA?

My local club, if you exclude my 33 yo self, has a median age of ~60.. and that's not a joke... Half the members are retired the other half 5 years from it... they are NOT drawing in young owners.

I own two of the oldest cars in the group and 90% of the group is new 911s or Caymans..

Even as a Porsche enthusiast why would I spend the money on a boxster or Cayman as an entry when a vette/Supra/evora/CTR/gt350 is the competition...

When they get an EV that will go 500 miles on a charge, I might consider one.

I don't think I've ever had a serious thought about purchasing a brand new Porsche. Build this and that would change.

I love the design and the idea. For anyone wanting to convert their 914, I just saw a show on MT about EV West. They sell an electric conversion kit for 914s. May have been mentioned here before:

It looks like a modern rendition of the 914 to me.

Porsche has had intro cars in the past... 914-4, 912E, 924

They need to build brand loyalty in the younger generations in order to continue to build high end cars for them once they have the money to buy one.

Build me one of these with the 718 4 cylinder turbo and I'm in.

I want it. Agree with the previous comment that the styling should be a bit lower and wider. It's close, really close, but could use a few tweaks.

I hate a guy who is such a pragmatist. (LOL)

I always DREAM about the new 914 that will, as Mark so wisely stated, will never happen

FUN FUN to dream about though, especially with pictures, thank you Bebo for posting

Am a bit confused. Is the pic of the green 914E an official Porsche design concept, or is the author just playing around? Clarification??

The author's design, I'm sure Porsche design would be way better

You wouldn't know it walking into the local Toronto dealer, Pfaff Porsche.
I don't think there a single car in their showroom under $100K. Just yesterday there was 4-5 customers at salesman's desks and tuesday would be a slow day. Lots of 30 something yuppy types, many chinese but just as many others. The chinese typically are looking at SUV's or the panamera, owning a high end car is prestige in their culture. Here a lot of peeps lease, especially if you can write part of it off as a business expense.

The roller and kit are not an insignificant investment. Then there’s This:

“After mounting this kit, the only thing left is to add a battery system, including cables, fuses, and contactor box, and you are ready to drive your classic Porsche on all electric drive.”

That’s not cheap!

I’m all for the EV as it is the future, but if Musk or one of the other companies builds an econobox EV, there’s only style points for a 914e.

It has in the past (914, 924, Boxster, Cayenne), and it has maybe saved the company. I see no reason why it may not happen again. I agree that it's not going to be commonplace as that would devalue the brand, but one new entry level car every decade or two could be a smart plan.

As for the fan-made rendering. Looks neat. Certainly Porsche would take a more thorough design approach, but the image is good enough to push home the point. I would happily drive that car.
