My current battery came with the car, which I got something like 8 years ago. So I now need a new one.
What's the max cranking amps that I can buy that won't fry the starter (if that's a thing?). My current battery barely turns the engine over. Is there a specific code that I can search in order to source the correct one? I don't want to change the clamp or anything else. |

Is 615 cranking amps good enough?

Oh you can do better than that. I have an optima red top with 800 CCA and 1000 CA.

Thanks Van! That's this one?
https://www.partsource.ca/collections/optim...e-agm-batteries Does it fit without any mods? Oh you can do better than that. I have an optima red top with 800 CCA and 1000 CA. |

Yup. Fits right in. I used the optima hold down as you can see in the pic.
The side terminals don’t touch the engine bay wall so no worries there. And it’s an AGM so no worries about leaks eating at your metal. I still have a mat under it just for safety. |

Sounds good, thanks!
Not cheap I see, but I'm annoyed enough at this point that I'm willing to spend some cash. Yup. Fits right in. I used the optima hold down as you can see in the pic. Batteries have gone up across the board. There are cheaper AGM batteries out there that will work just the same. But for me, optima last the longest. I love ‘em

In terms of CCA the more, the better; especially with carbs vs fuel injection. As far as frying the starter, engine manufacturers’ norms typically allow starters to endure 10-15 second cranks without overheating. Not good to crank longer without giving the starter a break. |

This seems to be a cheaper AGM:
https://www.costco.ca/energizer-34-agm-batt....100408236.html Size 34, like the Optima Red Top -- does that mean it will fit? |

It should have the same overall dimensions, yes. You might need to coil your ground cable given how much toward the corner the post is, but I think you'll have plenty of room for that too.
