Guys,
I've run into something weird that no one has mentioned. I have to lock my door to get it to stay shut or "latch". Anything? Kevin |

Guys, I've run into something weird that no one has mentioned. I have to lock my door to get it to stay shut or "latch". Anything? Kevin Pull the latch and throughly degrease it in WD-40 or ultra sonic cleaner. Once it’s clean, try moving the parts. Your problem should become apparent. Look at that spring; is was my problem. If one end of that spring jumps off its post, the latch won’t work. Also check to see if the spring has flat ends; it’s not a garden variety spring. Photo shows correct spring on the right… Good luck (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) Attached thumbnail(s) |

Hey Jim....hope you are well. Went through your neighborhood during the holiday.
Btw to the poster: Taking out the latch is one of those things I remember up there with the 914 curse record for taking out and installing. Right up there with installing the brake line on the famous "brake line anti spin" device and replacing the fresh air box. Think I have a few scars on my arms from both. |

Agree. Remove the latch mech on the door and thoroughly clean, and relube with white lithium grease. Your door handles will thank you, too! It's not that bad to do.

When removing the latch:
Roll window up Remove the outer door pull Remove the three screws that hold the latch mechanism, Note how you use your hands to remove the latch mechanism After cleaning, get yourself a long screw. Use the screw to help maneuver the latch into Place ( you’ll see what I mean ) Use the long screw to pull the latch over to the door edge, then start the short screws You only need one long screw to align… Good luck, your door latch will be a lot better (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) Attached thumbnail(s) |

Instead of removing door panels just for this I did it when fitting strips of sound deadening inside doors. Cheers. |

I tried using a bicycle chain lube this time; I think it’s less likely to gum up like grease seems to.
