i bought a new door handle and new lock cylinder from auto atlanta. The lock cylinder is porsche w german on the package insert. The handle i guess is after market knock off. This should not be hard, but i cant get the 'eccentric' (the cylindrical lever with a protrusion that is responsible for the unlocking function) to fit smoothly into the receptacle on the door handle. The fit seems too tight and i cant get the small square male and female alignments to mesh/lock in so that the countersunk head screw can engage and hold everything together. Any ideas? Why is the fit tight? It would make turning the key difficult
Thanks! Tom King, Denver |

Did you contact Auto Atlanta?
Did they confirm these two would be compatible? One would think they would, but… I would return the parts and get my money back… Aftermarket door handle are known for problems. I am sure @Thecabinetmaker , our resident expert, will chime in with a proper explanation. But get your money back first!!! …If you can. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) |

I bought a replacement handle from another vendor and had the same experience only with the original lock mechanism. I had to return the handle and rechromed the original handle

Yes, the repro handles often have fit problems. For me, it was the lock cylinders.

That's a jorg handle from Sierra Madre. Not great quality in regards to the fit. Good finish, but poor fit. Send it back. I have rechromed OEM handles for about the same price. Guaranteed to fit!

Thank you guys! Well, my old handles are beat up and missing pieces but instead of re-chroming approach maybe i could sand down the eccentrics that came with the new german lock cylinders a tad to be able to use them with the knock off handles. The fit it close just a hair too tight
short of that, where else might i buy handles and lock cylinders that will definitely fit together? |

As stated already above, contact Thecabinetmaker here or post a WTB add in the classifieds.

Very simple:
Send back to Auto Atlanta all the crap they should never have sold you. Fight with them to get your money back. Send all your parts to TheCabinetmaker for beautifully restored original parts. Install back and enjoy a large cold one! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beer3.gif) |
