Clearly well before OSHA! When Ford factories turned out a B24 every hour! https://youtu.be/p2zukteYbGQ?si=3-2MQags18hCJr1j |

Just saw that video and my wife barely endured the 12 minutes of early 1900’s piano music (IMG:style_emoticons/default/lol-2.gif)
I enjoyed it. Curious why nobody went to a steel wheel until the mid 20’s. Seems trivial in hindsight and what we know today, but was it aesthetics, cost, manufacturing, or simply nobody came up with the idea (IMG:style_emoticons/default/idea.gif) |

This came at a good time. I recently picked up a T chassis to get running. One wheel needs a spoke…..

Having lived with wooden wheels I am glad they switched to steel wheels.
Trying to find puddles and places to hose down the wheels when the spokes got loose on a tour made for a bad day (the water made the wood swell and stopped the rattling until they dried out again). And repairs to them are expensive these days because it is a lost art. But they are pretty. |

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif) We used water as a temporary method so the wheels didn't come apart while driving. We then removed the wheels and had them rebuilt. |

And repairs to them are expensive these days because it is a lost art. But they are pretty. I wonder if a hydroscopic fluid like antifreeze or hydraulic fluid would swell the wood permanently? Some wood turners use this approach to prevent wood checking as it dries. But then of course it never really dries. Not a fan for wooden bowls, but wheels outdoors might be a different idea. |
