I bought this car many years ago to make it a racecar, but nothing was ever done with it, and now I must downsize my project cars collection.
The car is rust free, even the hell hole looks good from what I can tell. I put it on FM since it allows all the pictures. I'll see how many I can post here. well ok I can post one here.. I have the clean california title, and its on a non-op with the dmv. The wife wants it out of the driveway! its where she parks her newish car, her BMW Z4 parked on the street got totalled, so we widened the driveway to fit 3 cars and now my junk is taking up the space. please help. This is a great buy with fender flares. Someone should buy this instead of spending hundreds of hours welding in patches on a rust bucket.

Add says 74, but this is a 75 model... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/popcorn[1].gif)
Would be interesting to see the rear panel to see if it matches. |

For a few reasons:
First, the front panel on you car has holes for the late shock absorber impact bumpers as shown on the blue car below (second picture). Also the shock absorber mounts are visible inside the front trunk (circled in red, first picture). Finally, the VIN plate is mounted on the firewall instead of on the headlight bucket (shown on picture 4), and the 75 has the fuel pump relocated to the front with that recutagular access port (circled in red) GLWTS! I didn’t see the rear bumper pad support on the rear panel so I’m thinking ‘75 with a 74 vin and paperwork. Still a guess but makes sense to investigate further. Maybe swapped to a 74 to get around CA emissions. |

Maybe swapped to a 74 to get around CA emissions. You would think anyone swapping the vin tag would put it in the right place. When I bought this car, it was for a racecar, it did not matter what year or even if it had a title, the seller found the title weeks later and sent it to me. If it was a 76 it would need smog in california, but not if it was a 75. Does a 76 differ from a 75? In any case, it has a 74 title and vin and is on a non-op, so there is no inspection required to get it registered and driving on the street. And clearly the car has the GT flares added and painted purple, so its not original, not going to be a showroom restoration. |

In any case, a future buyer might want to know if he or she has a vin swapped car, non op, non showroom, non original, notwithstanding.
You may not have cared about the title when you purchased it for the track but you are advertising a good CA title so obviously promoting it as something that could be used on public roads. I think you owe it to a future buyer to determine if you have an honest car. |

Make an offer! Need this car out of my wife's parking spot in the driveway. nobody needs a rust free shell? So I have a green light to tear this car up to make it into whatever, maybe put the shell on a 4wd chassis (I have one), or put in a prius drivetrain (I have 2 of them), or an EV (I have two). I'm going to remove the popup headlights and rob the mounts, which I need for my SRT project, a toyota echo slingshot wanna be, that is getting an angry jeep grill and I need the 7in round headlight mounting. We are not dicking with you. If you are willing to do the work, I would put a water-cooled Eng in it and you will end up with a nice glass flared car with say a SBC with a 901 factory trans and if you do the work yourself you will end up with a nice car that if you want to sell you should be able to find a home for it. As you are in CA the smog is a huge deal but it is not a 76 so that will not matter. Kent has a huge amount of info on putting H2O cooled Engen’s in 914’s You will spend less money to finish it and it will sell if you do it well. I had a 74 283 SBC (cam, headers, Maybe 200hp) with glass flares with 916 nose and back bumper a 901 trans and an aluminum Corvette radiator that I bought from a lead guitarist (Johnny) for Earth, Wind and Fire. This was back in 1979 $3,200 with parts. All I had to do was put all the pieces back on the car and prep the body for paint and get it ready for painting. Maaco paint and body did one of their best bk paint job on it and I tipped the guy spraying it before the job. Me and one of my guys at my shop prepped it and the car came out really nice. This car was so much fun except that it got very hot in the interior compartment as I lived in the San Fernando Vally in Los Angeles. If you have the skill set to do this work (and it is really not that hard) you can end up with a very nice car that will impress you and if done well, you can resell for some decent money at some point. Good luck. Bob B |

It's got the 75-76 rear sheet metal too. What does the vin plate on the pass fender well say? There is also a chassis code in the rear truck.
I'd bet it was a 76 thus subject to CA smog laws, and the reason the vin is currently 74 is because the seller had the 74 that was wrecked/rusted. |
