This is rediculous but here goes…I used to be able to get My 70 1.7L into reverse, now it’s almost impossible yet I have not driven it much maybe 3 short trips over a year period . It was never easy to get it into reverse, but now it’s crazy hard . What’s going on? Finding first isn’t easy either but the other gears are no problem. I guess it’s user error ! Tips ?

Check your clutch cable to make sure it is properly adjusted and not too stretched out.

Check that cone screw at the firewall.

1970 1.7 , is it all stock? No side shifter mod, so it is a tail shifter? Makes a big difference

could be clutch related, cable stretch, ....

after all it's a 1/2 century old
