When I look at any of the replacement pieces, they don’t list a thickness. Does anyone know the thickness of the original metal or patch panels?

Most the metal I used for patches etc was 18 gauge. The 20 gauge I had in the shop was just too thin. 18 was a little thicker for most patches (then the original metal) which gave me room to grind a little cleaning up welds etc.
For some reinforcements I used 16.. but it hard to use for anything but simple bends or backing plates where you feel you need it. It’s also heavier. One tip for you going forward is to use Google to search the forum. You’ll find other posts that talk to this subject. In the Google search box type “914 world metal gauge”… or whatever topic you need help with and you’ll find what you need. Good luck! |
