im looking for a pdf file of the 74 guages especially the combo oil/fuel/temp guage with wire color coding and maybe even a printable pdf. Thanks i've got to check the previous owners work....this is my first 74 that was tracked a bit and now would like to make it pass registration and with working lights. I know the green with red is the oil pressure switch so that is one out of 12.... 5 are lights and 3are the temp while 4 are the fuel. Thanks (IMG:style_emoticons/default/flag.gif)

Look carefully at the plastic connector bodies. You can see a "+" and a symbol kind of like a T with a couple of extra lines above it. Each of these is close to a metal terminal, and it denotes what goes on that terminal.
The + gets switched power. That would be a red/white wire. That's what powers the gauge. The T is actually upside-down in your pic, it is actually three parallel lines getting shorter as they go down, with a line coming off the top line. This is a ground symbol. It gets a brown wire. The third may have a "G" near it; I can't really see it in your photo. This would get the wire from the sender, which is different for each gauge. The fuel gauge sender would be a solid green, if my slightly cut-off scan of the diagram is correct. The oil temp sender wire should be green with a black stripe. You can see these colors on the wiring diagrams that Jeff so kindly pointed out. There is also the low-fuel light in the fuel gauge, which works off of a solid black sender wire and a red/white power wire. The other bulb fittings are for the other warning lights (charging system, oil pressure) and one for gauge illumination. --DD |
