Hi Mike,
Tell us which gears the sound is prevalent and whether it occurs when accelerating or all the time.
IIRC, i went through a similar noise years ago…..can’t remember what caused it though

Swing car right and left changing the load on each side at steady state when noise present.

Accelerate and decelerate in a single gear allowing engine deceleration. (Changes load front to rear and changes power delivery direction through the transmission.)
This is also done when noise is present.

Does noise increase with speed?

One of the two tests should alter the noise.

Left to right points to wheel bearings and possible differential side bearings.

Front to rear points to transmission internal.

Another test is to get it up to speed where noise is loudest, depress clutch, shift to neutral.
Noise still present? Swing car L/R, depress brakes.

Turn engine off only 1 click. ABSOLUTELY do not engage steering lock.
That can be a WILD ride!
This turns the car into a glider. Noise still present?
Swing car left/right.

You can restart car before stopping by ignition on, release the clutch slowly in proper gear.

Yet another test. Determine RPM where noise is present. Hold that RPM in neutral stopped. Noise still present? engine related

Something SHOULD vary the noise.

No way any of us could diag with info you have provided so far...

Need more/better detailed info.

If I had to guess right now my money would be on a wheel bearing but I wouldn't make a monetary bet yet.

All the above test I would complete in less than 30 seconds...

Takes longer to type than DO!

There some good ideas for you. I took my car to a big open parking lot to do some of the tests.
Do you remember whether the rear bearing had been replaced ?

I had a rear CV go last spring...after replacing both the noise was still there. one wheel with loose wheel nuts. WTF. Best, Mark

Yes. To be more specific, it's the input shaft bearing at the intermediate plate.

If it happens whether or not your in gear, it's likely a bad wheel bearing. If you can't tell which end it's coming from, put someone in the passenger seat with the window down to discern if it's a front or rear bearing as it's likely on the right side.
