FAT Performance 2.4L 914 Engine – For Sale

This 1.8L motor originally came out of my 1975 914. It was built into a carbureted 2.4L by FAT Performance in California in May of 2017. It was one of the last motors the original FAT Performance built before merging with RIMCO VW Machine Shop in June 2017. Upon completion, it stand dyno-ed at 166 hp, although the engine was built for reliability and longevity as much as performance.

The motor sat pickled for years in my climate-controlled garage until I installed it into my highly original 1973 2.0L while it’s motor was being rebuilt. I put about 600 break-in miles on the 2.4L motor before pulling it back out when the 2.0L’s original engine was ready. The 2.4L is a blast to drive in a 914. I have a rather snobby friend who thought he’d have no trouble with my 914 on a mountain drive around Asheville, but he never was remotely close to pulling away from me with his 3.2L Carrera, and I wasn’t working the engine hard.

I’m selling the engine just because I’m simplifying and divesting myself of my remaining cars and parts. In their day, FAT Performance was known for amazing 914 and VW engines. I have included the build sheet for the engine, the dyno results, as well as compression and leak down numbers. The engine also includes an attached, excellent condition 901 transmission. The total cost for the engine build was $11,879.45 in May of 2017 dollars.

It's essentially brand new with just the break in miles added. It runs magnificently and is ready to power your project.

Will sell for $10,000. I’d prefer a local pickup, but could probably figure out how to make LTL shipping work. You’d pay all packing and shipping expenses
