Hello,I am working on installing shift cables from a'97 Boxster.Any ideas on how to clamp the body of the cable ends? I cut the socket heads off and managed to thread the cable end with an M6 so I can use removable Heim joints.I have pictures of another member's brackets so that isn't the question. The first thing that came to mind were these clamp blocks for shaft supports. When I worked as a tool maker,I made many of these for different applications but I don't have access to a milling machine anymore.
Any ideas? The bore needs to be 28mmAttached Image Attached Image

I'd take a look at the Boxster cable mount bracket and repurpose it. It's a pretty simple stamped part that could be cut/welded to suit your needs. Nice thing then is its factory clips to hold the cable(s) in place.
Just my $0.02.

Thanks a bunch,I never considered that. I own a lathe but it's in storage right now.I have 47 years experience as a toolmaker and I know what to do but don't have all the machinery! I like the idea of stock parts.
thanks so much.

Don't mount it vertical. Keep it flat like the other and make a pivot arm. Or something as simple as a sliding wedge would work.

I looked at these brackets, they range from $88-$109,pretty pricey for a piece of stamped steel. Couldn't find any used ones yet.

I've seen others mounted vertical,I have pictures from another member on here.

Great solution, that Boxster trans. How do you adapt to that trans? CVs?

Anyhow, here are some pictures of my cable shift setup. I added an extension onto the shifter console casting.

There is a whole thread on my build. The info on the transmission starts here: http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?sho...79084&st=80

The rear trans mount is custom made. Some people make a mount that doesn't go around the back end of the transmission. I don't like a cantilevered mount, so I made sure we built a mount that was supported on both sides. The nice part is that I can add the mounting brackets for the wheel speed sensors to it that I need for traction control.

The axles are for a 991. They fit the hubs and use the same sized CV joint as the Cayman.

I moved the starter to the other side to provide access to the crankshaft position sensor. Rather than pull the whole transmission to replace the sensor, all I have to do is pull the starter.

I actually do try to think of things like that! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

My engine is a 3.1lt GM V6,had to move the alternator down and to the driver side because it hit the firewall in the original location but now it blocks the shift rod.
so hence the cable shifter.
