Normally they are plugged with plastic caps so I don't see any reason that you can't weld them shut unless you are planning on installing a front oil cooler.

Or you could ask around and see if someone has some plastics plugs laying around. I might have a few in a parts car if you want them.

My first 914 had the cable break to the front trunk latch. That was really no fun trying to open the hood with a crowbar. I ended up with a crooked hood with dimples and a ruined bumper pad and seals.

I noticed looking in the Haynes that as well as access for welding, these holes allow a way to get to the cable and hood hinge. It won't be easy, but if youv'e ever had that happen, you definately want a way to get into the trunk. Leave at least a couple open and plug with rubber caps.

I have 8 of them you can have. With the 1 you already have that'll fill all of the holes.

Lemme know where to send them...

There is a 5/16" hole right by the front latch to open it
with a screwdriver if the cable breaks. You just have to
have the bumper off to access it.
