Guys,

I am looking for a reputable shop on the west side of Dallas to get a performance tune. I need to get my car timed and my carbs synced. I recently bought a 2080 2.0l w/44 Webers and want to get the final tune and sync done on it. Can you recommend a shop that you would bring your car to have this work done? I am fairly new to the area and haven't had to use a shop in the past for any work I have done up to this point. Any information would be great! Thanks!

Also, are there any local meets or flea markets coming up that are 914 friendly. I would like to meet some other 914 enthusiasts in the area.

Thanks,

Doug

West of Dallas try:

Zims in Bedford - 800-356-2664
Mayo Performance in Euless - 817-540-4939

Both are very 914 friendly. Lots of 914's in the area!!! You should check out the local PCA Maverick Region as well. Heathly 914 representation.

If you are looking West of Dallas go to Mayo -
Based on what I have seen, he knows (or works on)
914's more than Zims (his wife has auto x one for several years),
and he was considered the 914 tech guy for many years in the north Texas area.

Otherwise, go to Wes at H & H on 15th street in Plano, about 4 blocks from Fry's...
Wes has been working on 914's for a l o n g time...

Any meets or flea markets coming up that you know of?

Thanks,

Doug

go to Mayo's. Al Zim doesn't take new customers with 914s. Not that he won't sell you parts, he doesn't have anyone who knows how to work on them. they are all new Porsche or BMW specialists.

Ed Mayo knows 914s. He is the PCA tech advisor for them.

You should check out the Talimena run in April. A bunch of us from the DFW area are going.

Wes is great as long as you're not in a rush. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) Maybe you can bribe him with a box of cigars.

After what Dave did to Ed's 914 at the one Ramble... you might want to think twice about telling him that Dave said Hi. Ed might charge you double! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Doug-

Check out this post on the Talimena Drive coming up on easter. You will meet a lot of D/FW teeners and have a chance to drive some roads made for these cars.

Betty-

I remember that. Afterwards, when Dave mentioned that now he didn't have a car to drive in our AX and then turned and looked at me, I just had to look away... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)

Sorry Dave! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

I only really broke one part on it!! I guess I have a much heavier foot than Ed or Jan... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

(Background: Ed and Jan generously let me run her car at a MUSR autoX. It got stuck at WOT a couple of times while I was driving it, and one of those times the motor "zinged" up to redline or past it before I could shut it down. Broke a rocker adjusting screw--made a bunch of noise, but was happily not fatal.)

Dave, your famous! I haven't even met you but I heard that story just 1 month ago and the Maverick Region A/X School (Ed was telling it). Definitely 914 lore material!!

Yea Dave is famous for "stress testing" other people's 914s. He borrowed Joe Yoder's 914 for an AX at one ramble, and on the first run managed to grind reverse going for second.

Dave is a great guy, but make sure your care is bulledproof before you let him drive it. He WILL find the weak spot!!! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/poke.gif)
