I'm now working on a power steering system for my V8 car. I'm using a Golf P/S unit and a Toyota MR2 electric pump. There will be some pictures soon, I'm building the bracket to mount the power rack to the 914 cross member.

Great, I'll be following this. I assume the golf PS unit has the steering shaft to the left and not in the middle like a 914? I looked at this, but am not looking forward to ripping out my brakes and hydraulic clutch to accomplish this.

The project is moving along, I've got the rack mounted and it fits in well. The hardest part is fitting the rack straight and keeping room for the brake master. I've got that now. It looks like the p/s lines have room as well. I'm going to have the P/S lines made and test the systems operation soon. Only if it works perfect will I move on the the next chapter.

Thought you had a hydraulic clutch. Does the master cylinder for this not penetrate the firewall?

I do have a hydraulic unit however The unit is in the corner of foot well. I don't think there would be a problem anyway, there is more room in that area.

I say pay an inmate $100 to file lawsuit after lawsuit against her for the next 10 years. I saw a piece on 20/20 once where there is a guy in jail who has done this (to a company though) and the company has to show up to fight it or they lose...he never wins but it has cost the company a ton of money just to "show up and win".

Doesn't seem right they can do that, but I guess it does. I suppose if I was in jail with nothing to do, I might have a few ex's that I could torture:)

It's nice to walk out in my garage at 1:00 AM and grinding, weld away. Theres plenty of distance between our homes. The folks in my new neighborhood are great!

Here is a shot of the rack installed, I have made up the lines and did a test run today. The system works unloaded and the pump is quiet, not at all what you would expect.
Next up is to make up the tie-rods, I need to get the Jetta ones and see how they'll need to be modified. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/welder.gif)

The gas tank fits without issue. I made a steering column/shaft cover plate that fits with the gas tank in mind. The steering column uses 3 couplers and a block bearing.

I fog out some of the crap in the pictures because it looks like Sh*t being too lazy / absent minded to clean it up before I take the picks.. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/yellowsleep[1].gif)

I was hoping to put it under the gas tank but I don't think it will fit, its the size of a starter/alternator and should stand straight up.
I am using a pump from a 91 Mr2 but I guess newer ones can be used as well. The pump will likely sit near the passenger wheel house opening behind the radiator and in front of the gas tank bulk-head....
I'm going to run the lines under the gas tank over left to right and have them pass through the gas tank bulk-head to maximize space..........
I did a test run without tie rods, placed a snap on end wrench in front of the steering rack ram and it nearly bent it in half, so I guess its doing its job...LOL

The nice thing (not yet determine However) is lowering the voltage to the pump may let me tailor the assist at higher speeds.. I'll have to cross that bridge later.. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/stirthepot.gif)

So now you can see how the units fit, its a mess, everything needs to be cleaned and painted. The P/S return hoses need to be replaced with the correct type. The wiring needs to be done as well. I still need to make the tie-rods and finish the steering linkage but its mostly there now.
