Still had an issue with loosing fuel pressure.

I treated the gas tank a month ago with POR-15 gas tank treatment.

Inspected the interior of the tank last night and found chunks of the product blocking the fuel inlet going to the pump. I followed the instructions but it seems like it didn't adhere properly. I might of scr&wed up somewhere.


I'll try to remove the chunks out tonight and hopefully these are the only one that decided to let go. I have this 17hr drive in a couple of days...

Do yourself a favor, it takes 72 hours for the product to dry, tanks needs to be clean clean clean before putting the product. Get it done in a shop specialised that is used to deal with this.

A few years ago we chased the same problem in a customers car (bug). He kept blaming my engine, he would take the engine out (3 or 4 times), bring it to me and I would put it on the test stand, no problem. Finally I said bring me the whole car or I'm going to start charging for all these test sessions. The guy was all pissed with me, blamed me, my engine....now he had to pay for a $100+ tow to my place.

Found the same problem, stuck in a new tank and it ran like a champ. The guy actually gave me a tip (didn't really cover all the testing) for all my (his) troubles.

That little screen filter at the bottle of the tank will get stopped up with crap on a untreated tank. Mine did several times, so I took it out and ran another inline filter right after the tank.

When the PO relined the gas tank some of the goo plugged the vent hold at the filler neck. Car would run fine until too much vacume built up and the gas stopped flowing. Make sure the vent hole is clear.

I hate those coatings. The last tank I did is the last tank I'll ever do. It lasted 30 years bare metal, it can do it again.

Yeah, I bought the POR 15 gas tank system, on the advice I read here or the Bird Board, and when I got it, I read the instructions, and had second thoughts. Looks pretty complicated, and the inside of the tank looks good to me, so I am leaning towards just leaving it the way it is. I would love to hear stories, both PRO and CON on this issue.

I used the gas tank treatment on a BMW motorcycle tank and it appeared to work great. No complaints.

Just got out of my fishing party...

What look like chunks of the product was only a small film of it. About as thick as a kleenex. Had a very large piece (about 4x3 inches in the can at the bottom of the gas tank and another smaller one).

All well and done, put the ignition on and the fuel pump is clicking and clicking but not much is happening on the pressure gauge. Usually my bendix fuel pump will click and slow down when pressure is built but it doesn't (like something is still blocked). Ok I had just changed the fuel line between the gas tank and fuel filter (fuel filter located in the front trunk with the pump) so something must be clogged in the little tube sticking out of the tank.

Pulled it out again... nope it's not that. I checked for kinks and everything is ok.

The suspect is now the pump.

And did I say that I hated playing with fuel?
