First question: How many caricatures in a chassis # for a factory 6?

And B: How many locations for the chassis #?

I went to record the chassis # from my trunk floor. The number looks like this:

13 0666 There is a space between the 3 and the 0 where you would think there should be a number but the space is smooth and un-punched. So if it is missing a caricature I would need to locate a second number to reference.

And third: What range transaxle number would be appropriate for this chassis. It seems I do not have a factory 6 transaxle. I would like to locate a proper case within the range.

rick:

My car is # 619

Chassis number in trunk is #130645 I don't recall if there is a space in the number

Engine # is 6404299

Transmission # is 7500630

I don't have a COA, but I've owned the car since early 73 and bought it from a Porsche Dealer when it was traded in with 23000 miles.
I know the previous owner didn't know what end of as screw driver to hold. So he never changed anything

You got me now.

How do you know your car is #619 based upon all the other numbers you have?

Rick,

I recall there is at least one more under the dashboard, and possibly even one on the back of the dashboard written in white sharpie or crayon also.

Look around here, there was some threads on it.
Andy and McMark (I think) tracked down a few locations for the chassis numbers.

It may also be in the originality forum.

I know it was in the prototype thread, but that may be long gone now.

I think if you ignore the space and looked at it as 130666
it might indicate a VIN range for the car.
Maybe around 500 ?
My car is 1095 and the chassis # is 131279

I'm pretty sure the car Rick is referring to is
# 9140430624
My car is #9140430619

So we are pretty close in Vin #'s

I was posting assorted numbers from my car that I know to original
for comparison only.

You have the correct number of digits and I agree, pull the lower dash pad and you will see the hand writen chassis # if it hasnt been painted over to compare with the trunk stamping. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/popcorn[1].gif)

the 13xxx is the Karman body number and has no direct correlation to the other numbers but since the cars were apparently assembled in some sense of numerical order, we can deduce the correct range of engine, trans and '043' numbers. .
My Vin is 9140431617. .
My Karman number is 131657, being 40 above the Porsche Vin number. . and interestingly my trans number corresponds exactly to the Karman number, mine being 7501657

Also, when I pulled my dash out, there was no number written on the bulkhead as I expected. I did have a blue painted dash panel on a silver car, much like others have found in mismatched paint for their dash panel.

Thanks all! Hey, I haven't pulled the dash and don't plan on it any time soon.

The door jamb tab has no numbers on it except the paint code.

The chassis # in the 914/6 is a variation on the chassis # or production # used on the 911 & 912 since the beginning of the 1969 model year. The dash also got the same number, however in the early cars they apparently did not match for much of the year. Another difference is the 914/6 chassis # was missing the year digit while the dash did not. For 1970, or most of it, the chassis # was centered in the trunk, then for 1971 it moved to the right side, and gained the year digit. At least one 1970 (a sporto) got a 1971 chassis.
The first digit (1) means it is a production chassis; if "0" then a replacement chassis
The second digit (3) denotes a Karmann 914/6 body type.
The third digit is supposed to be the year.
Finally 4 digits for the sequence #.
I would appreciate any VIN, production # and paint code combos anyone can submit.

Yes, I would prefer that. However if you want it kept confidential, then PM or email me. Also add engine & transmission #'s. Email me a scan of a COA if you have one.
