VW sourced the steering column from the Rabbit or Golf to the rest of the world. The shell went from metal to plastic. Instead of one piece shell it now was in two parts. New inter metal frame to allow for the thicker switch plug and deleting the water tube holder. The basic switch was the same but the base was 1/2 the thickness of the old one. Switch plug has two extra wire holders that are not used. This switch will NOT fit the 72-74 metal base. Switch is interchangeable with SOME late VW Bug and Rabbit switches. One in picture has extra pin for intermittent wipers.
