Yes, boys and girls. It's about to happen. Jake and I have struck a deal on his "loaner" engine. It is 2316 cc, 186 HP of pure power. As Jake explains it was used as a test engine for different set ups for his dyno tests and than loaned out to guys while thier engine's were being rebuilt.
Now I've got to fab up some wheelie bars for my car. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/happy11.gif) Let see.... if a stock 914 had 90 hp and weighed 2200 pounds that is 24.44 pounds per HP. My car will have 186 HP and weigh 1400 pounds or 7.52 pounds per HP. So if I got this right, my car should be faster than a stock 914, right? Sounds awesome! My tail dragger has an honest 190 hp at the wheels (i.e., dyno'ed), it's not significantly lighter than any other long hood 911, and it's scary fast within the powerband (3500 and up). Your car ought to be a screamer!

That's why I haven't cut the pass. side floor out. I've got two stock 914 seat shells that I'm going to rework and install. If you've never seen a naked 914 seat, it just fiberglass and pretty light when stripped down. Paul |

I was toying with the idea of a fiberglass fan housing and engine tin, but it would be a whole lot of work for little gain. But, what I will do is grind off all the tabs, brackets, tits, etc that is on the cast aluminum fan housing. I currently don't run the stock oil cooler but with the new engine I'll put it back on. Paul is gonna be kickin some serious ass with this power plant! This isn't a "normal" RAT engine, this one was used as a test engine in my 914 for a year, then stripped down and some components swapped to create the 2316 Hybrid test engine thats in the 914 now. 4 different customers of mine have "Borrowed" or rented this engine from me and it has been freshened up before the current "Borrower" received it from me. It is built with a crazy cam, a multitude of used parts from other engines but that has never impacted its performance or reliability! I wish Paul luck with this beast- It may not have the typical "Jake Pedigree" but it damn sure doesn't need it, this one has suprised me over and over again with reliable power . Everyone who has ever driven it is blown away by it's performance and they never would have guessed that it was anything less than one of my best engines. To lose 15 pounds he could install some Nickies...... Paul, find a blower housing from a 80-83 Vanagon and I'll share some tricks about what to do to it- Its also lighter and has better internal partitioning than the stocker. Paul was the perfect person for this engine- Light car, Autocrosser and thats exactly what this powerband is great for. He also understood that it was a loaner engine and what comes with that. Paul, you need a tach that goes to 10K, I have wrapped this baby over 8K on the dyno before! |

The difference between this engine and a 2 liter is like night and day... I'll see if I can find the dyno graph and upload it here for you guys to see.. It has almost perfectly flat torque to boot! |
