Quick question....why do different tie rod ends make any difference to the handling of the car? Aren't the specifications and measurements identical? Thank you for the sharing of knowledge....

These get rid of the funky inner tie rods that the 914 came with.
The original inner ends have a rubber coupler in them, and the "turbo" ends are a ball and socket joint like every other inner tie rod end in existence. The 914 inners are strange. The 930 inners are beefy. No geometry changes at all, just an upgrade. These are nice German Lemfoerder NOS pieces. I believe Lemfoerder was the OEM supplier to Porsche. That's why I bought them. Marks a good guy as well. |

You get a steel ball socket vs a rubber joint with metal sleeve. More positive feel.

Wow, checked and the Lemforder turbo tie rod kit is expensive on your side of the pond. Normal price in Europe is 125 usd and I paid with a special deal only 104 usd. They make a difference so good buy greetings Dax |

Do those $125 units have castellated nuts that require a cotter key or Nylocs?

the ones Mark sent me have class 4 locking nuts for the outer TREs.
Class 4 nuts do not have nylon in them. They are "supposed" to be single use items but you can get away with using them 3 or 4 times. Especially if you use blue Loctite on the 2nd and up times. I've never had a nut like this come off after tightening and I've re-used class 4s many times. The normal application for class 4s is a high heat application that would melt the nylon insert out. |
