A couple of injectors failed (leaking) on my 1974 2.0 Djet. I'm assuming they are original as they are green. I know I can ship them off to be restored if possible, but I think they are probably toast and so in the meantime I've bought new Standard Motor FJ67's and will install those. I realize the new injectors take an inner and outer seal. My question is, did the original injectors have two seals also? Only one outer seal come out with the first offending injector I pulled, so I'm wondering if the other is still seated in the hole? Have a borescope coming so I'll take a look, but curious in the meantime, hence this post.

The injectors have two seals. One, the "inner seal", goes around the end of the injector where it fits into the recess in the intake runner pipe. The other, the "outer seal", doesn't seal anything. It fits around the injector and provides a shoulder for the mounting ring for the injector to seat on.
If I've done this right, this should show an injector with both seals on it: (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads_offsite/eadn-wc01-11639375.nxedge.io-121-1702148913.1.jpg) This shows the mounting ring or clamp or whatever you want to call it: (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads_offsite/i.ebayimg.com-121-1702148914.2.png) The outer seal fits into the middle of the ring there, and the clamp is held onto the intake runner pipe with an M6 (10mm wrench size) nut. My speculation is that this holds the injector in place but provides a bit of cushioning against the vibration of the engine, helping to prolong the life of the pintle valve and electronics inside the injector. --DD |
