Not unique to 912’s
Seen it on Bugs, 914s, and 911 engines. I’ve even seen it on lawn equipment. Pretty much anything air cooled with a shroud. This is why I always advise someone buying a used engine that’s been sitting to at least remove the tin and see what’s hiding in there. I’ve found tools, spark plug insulators, cigarette bits, etc. makes you go (IMG:style_emoticons/default/idea.gif) |

I did not find that in my 912e, but did in this 3.0 I picked up recently. As Phil said not 912e specific.

I've got WORSE!
If you turn your car off in "fresh air" versus "Recirculation" you leave a HUGE hole open into the HVAC system. Most modern cars have a horizontal down draft cabin air filter which makes a "Jim Dandy" nesting surface for rodents. They have their litter of mini rodents on TOP of the air filter which they chew on... You jump in your car and suck those puppies into the blower motor. They DIE! And then they leak! And your car smells like a carcass a few days later... I charge MORE if I'm violently retching during the repairs. Wiping the resultant "scum layer" out of the blower motor housing is a job I'd rather never do again! |

Little critters can really get up almost anywhere. Little hangar trick a buddy taught me years ago was using cheap party strobe lights in the hangar/shop. Something about the flashing lights really bug rodents, birds etc. Never had any, so guessing it works.

I live in a very critter-dense area and it's a constant battle. This thing is literally in my backyard:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wallis_Annenb...ldlife_Crossing Not long ago a mouse/rat chewed wiring on my 911 which was $$$$ but thank goodness, they didn't get inside the car. Luckily as far as I know they've left my 914 alone maybe because the newer cars are tastier (plant-based vs petro-based insulation, apparently?) I basically keep snap traps set at all times, but the main thing has been to ensure there are no entry/exit openings and no easily accessible food or nesting materials to unnecessarily attract them from outside. |

Pink insulation from the building the car is in. Usually it's the padding from the seats. I hate rodents!

I guess rodents are better behaved in Germany.

I used the ozone generator to chase the little bastards out of a couple of cars. It depletes the oxygen and they leave or die. But you still have to clean up after them

I used the ozone generator to chase the little bastards out of a couple of cars. It depletes the oxygen and they leave or die. But you still have to clean up after them I looked into this! I'd never run across an ozone generator to remove critters from cars and thought "what a concept!" BE CAREFUL with this!!!!! Tons of threads on Reddit and other places regarding using these in automobiles. It seems the ozone can seriously jack with plastics causing them to out-gas like a MOFO! The biggest complaint was "unable to drive car due to the stench for weeks!" It seems the ozone generators work GREAT in a house to remove smells. Got a house that has been smoked in for decades? The ozone generator is the way to go! It just messes with plastic like nothing else I've ever run into. Due to the MASSIVE complaints regarding using these in cars I will not try it... |
