Kind-of a newbie question here: How can I easily verify that I have 911 front control arms and front track.

I do have front S-calipers, vented rotors and hubs. Should a front track measurement suffice?

Thanks,

I believe 911 arms are the same as 914 other than the amount of splines on the torsion bars.

A picture would help on identifying the brakes
I also believe you would have to pull a torsion bar out of the a-arm and count the splines to verify the a-arms

I believe 911 arms are the same as 914 other than the amount of splines on the torsion bars.
Mostly, the other difference is sway bar attachment.
When A-arms are so equipped the 911 non-through the body anti-sway bars have mounts that are not compatible with the OE style 914 bar & link attachment.

The 911 anti-sway bar doesn't go through the car's body and has different mounting points on the control arms, and this is easy to see the difference. The 911 cross member is aluminum (except maybe early 911s that had the smaller 3" spaced caliper mounting holes?).

Edit: never mind my comments about it having an aluminumcross member. I think the cross member can either aluminum or steel as both AL & steel are compatible with 911 or 914 control arms. Also, front struts of different types (pinch bolt and ball joints types, caliper fastener spacing, etc) are a different problem and can be replaced with other types. I guess I was in the mode of what came on the 911s in the 70s on one particular car, without mixing and matching things from different cars. So, never mind. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beer3.gif)

911's did use a thru body sway bar up thru 1973.
The 914 A arms appear identical to 911 arms. But all 911 arms thru 1973 have the U shape tab for the drop link.bsome 914 do and some do not have the tab.
74 and later 911 A arms have a loop shape tab for the under body sway bar.

The torsion bar adjuster caps on 914 have a VW logo and 911 do not. It is on only one of the edge of the cap.

The track will not identify if you have 911 or 914 A arms.

Take a 914 torsion bar adjuster, remove yours/compare/try to fit on the end of the torsion bar, you’ll find your answer really quick….

Got behind with work-work. Added photo of my front end. (don't mind the exhaust below control arm)

From what I read, control arm lengths are not different between 914-4 and 911. So thanks for the feedback

My reason for asking was my attempt to figure out what front track I should be have.
