I had one installed on my car. I haven't had it very long but it seems to work okay. Just get a good one with a small/but powerful motor so it'll fit in the door.

I bought a complete (hope) SPAL 'kit' from Jim a few years ago. Haven't opened the box yet. The car is inching closer to paint, the new door cards are done (without the manual crank hole), so......soon.....I hope.
Plan is to put the lighted switches in the 'new' center console.... |

Power windows? I just don't understand why you would want this? What's next; back-up cameras, automatic transmission and power steering? I apologize for the sarcasm. I suppose I am just a Luddite, but one of the things that I like the most about my 914 is the originality. How about splitting the difference between then and now and buy an early 90's Miata?

As they say, to each their own...
I tend to think that adding things like power windows, heated seats, power mirrors and the like make the car better in many ways. |

I think the cars would be safer with power mirrors and power windows. A purist might decide to place these only on the passenger side if they want to. I say this because I am stupid enough to try to lower the passenger window while driving at around a mile a minute. I am also forgetful enough to find myself yet behind the wheel with the right side mirror out of whack. Too lazy to stop, unbuckle, shut down the engine and haul my sorry rear out to get it right. But I could get the mirror right if it was electric. I bought the parts, but still am not sure they would look OK. Anyone need 911 mirrors can contact me. |

My v8 914 has power windows.. my six does not. I have long arms, so rowing the passenger window up or down while driving has never been a problem. I’m the only one that drives my car, so no reason for electric mirrors. The v8 914 also has electric door locks. Nice feature and it saves wear and tear on the keys. I’m not against these updates if it makes sense.

.. I am stupid enough to try to lower the passenger window while driving at around a mile a minute. I'd never waver from the stock mirrors (other mirrors just don't look right to me), but I'd do power windows. Well, at least one over on the passenger's side.. for the reason stated above and the fact that it's just plain annoying to have to reach all the way over and crank the damn thing. IMHO. I actually have a kit that I bought for my P1800E Volvo but have never installed, maybe I'll see if it works on the 914 first. |

I was actually having this discussion over dinner yesterday. My brother in law was bragging about all the bells and whistles his new Tesla has. I told him that I didn't want all that stuff. Because it can break. And then you are left in the pouring rain with a window that won't go up.
The appeal of a 914 to me is the simplicity. No power anything. I loved the manual steering, the manual brakes, the manual windows, and the manual mirrors. And with the factory six, it even has points and carbs. Simple and reliable. |

The only modern convenience I could justify for my car was the installation of a power antennae, as the original is impossible to reach while sitting in the driver seat.

What's next; back-up cameras
Having a in cockpit rear view camera display like some gt4 cars is an idea that has been given some thought for my track car, plus some carbon fiber look bits. The thought here is ; any inspiration to get in and drive is golden. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) |

Osnabruck914 I had a Hirschmann power antenna on my car. I am thinking of going back to a manual one. I don't listen to the radio enough to really justify it. |

As a rule, I don't want power stuff and convenience features in my 914—in fact, their absence increases my enjoyment of the car.
With that said, a power passenger window would be somewhat appealing given the reach over to that side of the car (it's longer than in a 911, as the 914 was conceived as a 3-seater) as well as just how much little adjustments of the passenger side window can improve enjoyment while driving. Sometimes, I like it all the way down. Other times, I like it all the way up. I have never tried it in my 914 due to the reach, but I have also found little adjustments of passenger window can make my 911 more enjoyable at various speeds. But I wouldn't even think about this unless there was a very well engineered option. |

[/quote] The simplicity coupled with a great handling package certainly is hard to beat. Pat of the handling seems to me is the width of the car coupled to the mid engine layout. |
