The not a real six 1972 3.6 914 that sold for $170k is back on BAT
Will it get over $170k again? I doubt it. https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1972-pors...ampaign_2461171 Love the new video https://youtu.be/sIHG8TLuDOw?si=X3sU-GKCjtvdgyYM Mine is similar to this one, but not professionally built and half the price. However, I doubt there is a shop out there that that would build an equivalent car for under $200k |

I missed this first time around. I can't imagine getting near that price again.

I missed this first time around. I can't imagine getting near that price again. I cant imagine why it got that much in the first place. The paint looks less than special. Blacked out shinny bits, and the Targa trim is even dented. Looks like a decent (not excellent) 914 build with a 3.6. Not seeing where there ever would have been 170 here. I'm thinking 75-80 maybe. |

Already at $88,888 with 6 days left on the auction.
It will go well above 100k without a doubt. I'd imagine the reserve is at least $150k. Low mileage 993 engines are not cheap even if you can find them. Will be interesting to see what actually happens this time around. |

Doesn't make it worth 150, the rest of the build looks fairly middle of the road to me, so you are buying an engine. I also feel a 3.6 is a little overkill in a 914. |

I hope it does well. its a sweet build but I could never justify the price tag. But I have to say I was a little let down after watching the driving video. I expected it to be more challenging to drive, but power is hard to realize in a video. Based on the video I think my car would give it a run and is more exhilarating. |

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/agree.gif) I have the same setup as this car. 3.6, 915 trans, 1 3/4” MSDS headers and two out muffler. From the outside my previous Euro 3.2 sounded the same. From the inside the 3.6 fan and chains are quieter. I’m still breaking the motor in, but it doesn’t feel like a ton more power over the 3.2, just more refined and I can lug the gears a little more which is nice. I also have a 400 hp SBC 914. No comparison… |

A stock 3.6 really only has about 35 more hp than a 3.2. More torque down low makes it easier to push the heavier later 911’s. It’s never inexpensive to build a custom car and a shop built car can get expensive really quickly. I would love have this car but I have no interest in it when compared to the price that people are willing to pay.

I have a stock '95 3.6 with a Steve Wong chip and Ben's heat exchangers and a 901 in my car. The thing I like the best is the torque; that engine pulls from 1500 RPM nicely. It is quieter than the 3.2, like Steve observed. I also like the hydraulic lifters- no more valve adjustments. I don't drive my car hard and the 3.6 just runs great. Cruising on the freeway at 75MPH in 5th, about 2700 RPM, I just have to breath on the gas pedal and she is going 100 MPH in the blink of an eye. It was a lot of work, but I love the 3.6. I loved my 3.6 914. I’m thinking I sold it for way too little, but values were different when I sold it. What I really liked about the 3.6 was its dual personality, you could drive it easy and it obeyed or you could hit go pedal hard and hang on!

I would love have this car but I have no interest in it when compared to the price that people are willing to pay. Its really odd to me the premium people will pay for a six regardless of the car wrapped around it. I like to think with my experience at this point I know what it costs to do most if not all of this work. The problem with this car for me there are a few things on this car that while some might call a design choice I look at and think "well that's the cheap/easy way to "restore"" that. So even if this car did cost in the ballpark of 150k looking at a 914 in that price range I shouldn't be thinking that about anything done on it. I know of a couple six figure 4 cylinder narrow body builds that were done to a much higher standard than what I see on this car. One of them resold on bat for far FAR less than what I know the original owner had into the build or what it would cost to re-create. Does having a six and flares make a car built to a lesser standard somehow worth a literal 5x premium? In my mind people seem to be focused on the wrong elements. Nope, no value in this car at 170k. |

The drive train alone is worth a minimum of $40k. Used motor $25-30K and additional money for top end overhaul or overhaul $8k-15k + 916 Trans $10k + PMS conversion parts $5k. Plus axles and CV's. I did the 916 trans conversion over 10 years ago, which was a project in itself.

Well the price keeps creeping up and didn't think it would get this high...and then there is the late bidders to go ,however if there is a reserve it won't get there unless the seller is fine with dumping money on it ? ,I would be surprised if there isn't a relist but you never know ? as I don't really know how this site works.
IMO it is a conversion car on a 914 chassis not a real six and the buyer payed too much . Cheers. |
