I'd put money on Marty's car DESTROYING that. A bunch of money! I actually think Marty's car is "unobtanium". He will NEVER have enough traction to go WFO... His is the ONLY 914 I've seen that REALLY needs to be "all wheel" drive! |

Back in the day (late 80s early 90s) PAR Porsche out of NY had a 962 powered 914. Essentially a tube chassis with a massive powerplant. I was riding in my dad's 6 on the back.straight at the Glen when he rocketed past us like we were standing still. Will have to see if I can find a picture. It was red with imsa bodywork. Nick Venturi is a name.that comes.to.mind?

Wow. So a post about an engine, then a compaison to a modern 914 beast , led to a flickering memory which then prormpted a quick search to a car i remember from when i was a young adult. Pops up that it is for sale only last month after a 25 year hibernation.

Your memory and finding the "supercar" for sale made the thread BETTER!!! I don't think gereed75 had any other intention besides "Look at this cool shit". You made it COOLER! Now, I REALLY would like pictures (under carriage/body off) and more info about the ex supercar. Engines are the EASY thing to build. 22K might be a deal on that depending on how much is missing. |

No problem with thread drift here. Just cool stuff that is out there.
When I saw the PR Tech car I also thought of the comparison to Marty's GTT. Great seeing BillJ's memory come to life. The interweb is a great and slightly scary thing! $22.000 would be a great price for someone with a special interest. Limited as to what you can do with it except show up and garner oohs and awes. Time Attack maybe?? But then again showing up with the coolest stuff is priceless. Just shows oh many really crazy 914 based creations are out there |

I also remember that it had a writing on the side of it that said, "owned and flown by Nick Ventura" and man was he moving. |

Fastest mid-engine Porsche I took a ride in was (late) Otis Chandler's 'Vintage Race team 917-30. I was in my 20's and at RIR, Calif. won a raffle ticket for ride along 10 laps. This was the Cam-2 (also Sunoco #6) record car (closed course) car. It's in the Factory Museum; the other #6 Sunoco around the USA tracks these days is the ex- Matt Drendel car...which is also an ex-Penske 917, but built from spares/ no race history. After a ride (over 220mph) down RIR back straight, what is a fast Porsche mid-engine ? The T4 2L 914 turbo that I ran in POC back then just became a snail after that ride.

Money shot of the #6 record car; you can see the added intercoolers in the rear, which Roger Penske packed with dry ice...primitive but effective in intercooler temp drops during the closed course runs. That ride along at RIR changed my course in pursuing a faster mid engine 914.
The top left of this picture you can see the yellow nose of the Von K 914 turbo track monster; that is another story. |

The horizontal fan 3.2L biturbo that I finished in 1995, is still a fun ride. The 8gtt is my new goal in pursuit of a quick mid engine Porsche.

Wow some awesome cars! I drove on track at summit point one time with the 917 sunoco car taking some easy laps. I was in a lowly 914 4 cyl 2 .0 all of 100 hp (maybe) with euro pistons hahaha.
And agree that 22k is a steal provided it has no significant rust issues |

@BillJ I remember Nick Ventura's crazy 914 well. It had a few iterations, but I also recall that the last version had a factory 962 motor. That thing was fast!
Last I knew, a shop in Canada bought it for the motor. |
