Has anyone experience with the fuel injection system CB Performance makes for type IV/914 motors? What is installation like, How well does it perform, is it reliable and maybe a better choice than trying to find a used factory injection system for a 914 2.0 liter.

Take a look at what Raby is using...I think he has done considerable R&D to make it really work with the 914...

unless they have changed them, it's basicly a fuel injection system that does not change the settings automaticly to compensate all that well for differing conditions....they give you a controller with a couple of knobs to twist to fine tune it....okay I guess if the the weather or driving conditions never change
for the money, there are better systems out there, the SDS supposed to be fairly easy to tune and is robust... |

I've heard a bit of good, but mostly bad things about CB's system.
The SDS system is easy to tune and if you don't go with the crankfire (CB doesn't have crankfire) it is pretty easy to install on your stock plenum. You will need a couple of bungs welded in and finding a home for the brain is a bit of a PITA, but for the most part it's easy. 3 years on SDS for me... My set up isn't cheap, but its designed specifically for the TIV and I have really busted ass for the last 7 months with it on the dyno and in ALL of my cars.
The CB system is simple, but in my experience with it, constantly needs turning of knobs and etc. Also the brain is NOT programmable so if you make a change to the engine you have to send the brain back for programming. It does make good power if you get it dialed in correctly, but I feel it was designed for drag racing and limited daily use. CB are great guys, but they do ZERO R&D for the TIV engine as their big specialty is the TI market. |
