My 76 teener has the big heavy crash bumpers. I actually like the way that they look on the car. But they are really heavy. What is required to back date the bumpers to the lighter 74 and earlier bumpers?

If you do a search there is a thread that answers your question. There are some good pics too. Good luck finding it.
I did the backdating on mine and I like it much better. The hardest part of backdating the bumpers is finding good bumpers and pads. Unless you are going fiberglass... Good luck. |

While I would love to do glass bumpers, my car will be driven too often around Baltimore or DC. You know when you have gotten to either of those two cities when every car has scratched, nicked, and bumped bumpers. Actually the above is a big argument for keeping the steel and rubber. I just want to ditch as much of the weight as I can. If I were a more talented fabricator, I would make the same shape of the steel bumper, but out of aluminum. Shave off a lot of the weight, but keep the city parallel parking security. Zach |
