again the sacramento car makes me appreciate the general condition. some suface rust but most of the discoloration is adhesive. re an older post about not glueing in the new seal. how are you supposed to get the new one to stay in place?

3M makes a good adhesive remover. Whatever you do, do not glue the new 1 back in. The fit fine without glue.
Each time after I wash my car, the rear and front trunk seal come out. I then dry the channel and let the seals dry before putting them back in. You rust isnt bad at all. Seems well hidden by the seal. This leaves you plenty of options on how to treat it. |

i have a "new, old" seal that i never installed. tried a test fit. no way is it going to stay in place, the corners roll into the trunk area. perhaps i purchased a "cheapy", long ago. is there a big dif with nos? a fyi. gumout carb cleaner cleans old adhiesive like a mother. rolls up like snot balls on your finger. MUCH cheaper than the 3M.

Hey Kevin. I bought a repro front trunk seal years ago from Automotion when they were still around. It was a terrible fit and I returned it right away. The profile was too small, the corners nearest the windshield were glued at 90 degrees instead of the proper angle (greater than 90). I don't know if there are multiple aftermarket sources for this seal, or if all the repro versions are the same. But my experience was the same as yours - this is one place where the OEM seal is a must.

I concur on the above, do not glue and clean the old glue out. I wax that channel adfter it is clean and use a real seal if you can get one. The repros just don't work.

i just used a drop of silicon evey foot or so to hold it in place.
works great so far. i also used the silicon to glue the seal ends together where they had separated. seems to hold up well. Andy |

I bought a new Porsche seal last year and the fit was terrible. Evidently Porsche (or their supplier) has changed the material and/or method seal is put together.
Glue would not have helped the two seals I tried since the rubber that contacted trunk when closed was full of ripples.........even after letting sit for a week with trunk closed. I located a new seal that had been on the shelf for a few years and it fit fine. Did glue in 6-8 places using only a drop of 3M as recommended by several other guys. John |

well i need to get a seal in. stoddard? i don't want to chase my tail ordering and returning like some idiot. i get the corner miter deal. that's part of the problem. i wish the seal had a slide on the lip setup like the window to engine lid seal.
