I've got a fuel pump rebuild kit on the way (ebay). All I really need out of it (I think!) are the seals, but since I have the parts I figure I might as well go for it. Any suggestions on instructions or what to do or not do?
Thanks, Konrad |

If it is the fuel pump kit that I am thinking about that I saw on ebay it was for a VW bus, not a 914. All the 914 pumps were electric. The buses had a fuel pump on the block that worked like the VW bug motors with a rod that moved up and down. I have never seen a kit offered for Bosch fuel pumps in 25 yrs.

I actually found a link once while surfing and didn't bookmark it. Never found it again. Somebody must make them though since there are a lot of 'rebuilts' that are offered for sale. The 3 port pumps are the tough ones - getting a new cap and that little rubber tit on the end of the pop off valves.

Since the kit includes the base gaskets for the bus pump, as well as the diaphragm and whatnot, and since it has a VW bus part number, one can ascertain that it might be for a bus with carbs, or a 1974 1.8 914 in the European only trim. You know, the ones with the lovely dual carb, single idle circuit, POS induction system. Throttle plates are wornout in 20K miles, and I'll bet you can't find THOSE! The Cap'n

Yeop, looks like the mechanical type (Bug/Bus) rebuild kit. Not gonna work with our electric fuel pumps. Attached image(s) ![]() |
