What is the weight difference between a Kuhmo V Racer and a Hoosier?

8-9 lbs if I recall correctly. The Vracers have steel belts... Hoosier uses composite.

I lost my damn notes, but it is a significant diff. A couple or three pounds per corner IIRC. You can feel it very noticably when you lift the two wheels together (i.e. one on each arm.)

Actually I have the Ecsta V700 which I think is supposed to be a little lighter than the old Victoracer. But it's still heavy.

Thanks Guys. I might spring for a set of Hoosiers after my VRacers wear out. I am surprised at how durable the VRacers are.

Why are you asking? If you want the true performance, use the Hoosiers, both lighter and stickier (2 seconds per lap). If you want longevity, use the Kumho Victoracers. STAY AWAY FROM THE ECSTA V700s. I cannot stress this enough.

I'm asking to enlighten myself. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smilie_pokal.gif)
I know a few people who like the Ecsta's. Have you had bad experience with them cording?

We went through 2 sets of the Ecstas. 2nd set was a replacement from Kumho. They were less sticky than the Victoracers and wore out in 1/2 the time. They got greasy right off both in shaved and unshaved. EVERYONE I have talked to that has used them has had the same experience. Maybe the experience is different in autocross, but I doubt it. Run away!!!!

Not a pretty picture is it?

Chris

Make sure that the Hoosiers will fit under your fenders.
The same tire size Hoosiers are not the same real size as the Victoracers.

FWIW I am not super fond of the Ecsta's either (this is my first and probably last set) but I have had no real "problems" with them i.e. cording or blistering. They do however sometimes feel greasy and squirmy after 10 minutes of lapping or so, and just do not seem as stable or predictable as the Hoosiers. I used to run Yoko A008RS's and liked them better too. These Ecsta's have been on the car since January and have seen about half a dozen track events plus a handful of canyon drives. They are not dead yet but one more event will probably do it.

Actually I had a blowout (sidewall separation) on a Victoracer on my last car -- this was in 2001 -- and so I guess overall I am just not a big Kumho fan. I run Hoosiers on my "serious" track wheels and might try the Michelin Cup next, on my new 3rd set.

I'm thinking of going back to the Victos. I like the number of AXs I got out of them (7), they grip well, but they are noticably heavier. I've heard great things about the Hoosiers but I couldn't get my recent set dialed in, and I plowed my way into flat spot frustration.

GRM had a tiar test a while back. IIRC, 205 X 50X 15s, Hoosiers were one pound lighter than the Kumhos.....doan remember if they were Vracers or
Ecstwhatevers. The AX hoosiers were .2 sec quicker on a 40 sec course.....Neon test car.

Anyhow, I'm told that Kuhmo is comming out with a new R spec tiar. I know a guy that gets them fer free (I think)....he finished 7th in SS at Topeka this year.

BTW, a Beemer won FP at the SCCA AX finals this year. A 914 was 3rd........rats. A quick peek at the effin' rule book supplies the reasons.
