OK I may be a "little" crazy, BUT....I'm about to take a ROAD TRIP from Tampa to S.E.M.A in Vegas to try out the new Subie Setup. So far I've put ~1000 miles on the car in the last 2 weeks, and have no issues.
So, I'm looking for fellow 914 enthusiasts along the way, just in case help is needed or the possibility we could meet. I'll be leaving Tampa some time this weekend, probably early Sat am. 10/21 where I'll be staying near Monteagle Tennessee the night of 10/21 and 10/22. I will be in Nashville Monday 10/23 and part of the day Tuesday 10/24, then it's off to Kansas City. I'll be in Kansas City Wed and Thursday 10/25-26. From there it's out to Vegas for the SEMA show from 10/30 leaving Thursday 11/2.. I expect to be in Houston 11/4 and back in Tampa on 11/5. I'm only really concerned with the route from Kansas City to Vegas through the mountains. What's the chance of getting into snow out there this time of the year? For anyone who might want to say hi along the way, pm me and I'll send you my cell. Ed aka W9R1 |

I did 1000 miles straight from Moab Home, and the stock seat are very crummy for long distances (or hard driving, but that's another story) Hope to see you @ SEMA, i'll have the Yellow WRXteen. BJH |

dude, g/l on the drive. I did a 8200 mile drive from NYC to LA and then a million places inbetween.
Careful of the mts. I was there in July and there was snow on alot of the mts rolling through. Also when the RRC was Sept. 23 weekend there were guys that got stuck driving in some snow through Loveland pass and the Eisenhower Tunnel! |

If you come through Denver let us know when you might plan to arrive and we'll see if we can provide a welcome party. Good luck! I40 is about as far south as I have time to go. I've done that trip before but it was 1968 in a 65 Thunderbird with my Dad. I remember doing a 100mph through the desert in New Mexico and the freight trains would pass us. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/w00t.gif) We ended up blowing a water pump and overheated the car. I left the radiator cap loose (ok I was 14 and stupid) which meant very shortly thereafter we had to melt ice cubes for water for the radiator for what seemed hours. How about Kansas City to Wichita to OK City, and then I40 West? I remember there was alot of straight road out there (IMG:style_emoticons/default/yellowsleep[1].gif) but it would be a good chance to open this baby up and see what she'll do (IMG:style_emoticons/default/piratenanner.gif) ed aka W9R1 |

I'd head South to Wichita and then drop down to I40 this time of the year. If your not used to driving thru snow. It will only add a few more hours to the drive.

You should do fine on I-40. No need to head farther south. Although Flagstaff is at 7,000 feet, weather is expected to be fairly good based on the long range forecasts that I've seen. We had some hail today when a front moved through, but the roads were just wet. Flagstaff is the highest point that you'll encounter on I-40.
Greg Robbins has the emergency contact spreadsheet and he provides it upon request (it's readily available, just not for download to guard privacy). Since you'll be going through Flagstaff, you've got to stop long enough for lunch, dinner, whatever meal it happens to be. PM me to get contact info so we can get together. When you get to Kingman, I recommend that you DO NOT go NW over Hoover Dam to get to Las Vegas. The traffic across the dam moves so slowly it's impossible to describe. I recommend that you go through Bullhead City/Laughlin. It's not much more mileage and it's a lot faster drive. Have fun!! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/driving.gif) |
