About 30 years ago I worked at a Toyota dealership where a formula Vee racer worked as a mechanic. He was the man who gave me the heads-up on the 72/6 I have today. About 25 years ago I went to his house where he had a 70 1.7 in absolutely gorgeous condition sitting with only 14,000 miles on it.
Today, I was out in his area and decided to stop by. He's sitting in his garage, now 83 years old and there it was. The same 70 in exactly the same spot in the same condition with the 14,000 still on the clock. This is a car that looks like it has never been dirty, ever. He helped order the car and has some very interesting characteristics. I plan on going back out to get a series of pics in a couple of weeks. Here's a bit about it. vin: 4702910016 door # 2529567 production date: 6/70 color: adriatic blue interior: beige cordouroy All books, tool kit and maintenance records are in perfect condition The car fired right up and ran like a top. Hope to have the shots up in a bit. |

Thanks for all your patience, here's some shots.
To preface the pics, a bit of history on the car. The man I know, call him AB, bought this car back in 1973 from a customer he help order the car for in 1970. It is a bare-bones, standard model with the only options being the tinted glass, 165 tires and a 5 sp. AB was a Porshe tech at the time working for Berea Porsche. They changed it to dual 40mm Solexes, but still has original injection system in perfect shape. They also upgraded the heads although I'm not sure how. AB himself is what I consider one of those minor legends and a true Porschephile. A testimony to his devotion is his past ownership of a 1954 Speedster he had from 1965-2002 and ran up a grand total of 3 miles in that time. He raced a 51 cpe for years often towing it behind a 1964(36hp) Beetle. If the condition of these books give you an indication as to how clean this car is, I felt like I was holding a precious manuscript. As promised... Attached image(s) ![]() |
