To be honest I should have started this a while ago.
Background on the car (condensed version): I bought it out of a field from a tow truck driver who removed from the garage of a house which was being busted by police for drugs. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/stirthepot.gif) The landlord took the car for rent due and called the tow truck to store it and then he disappeared. All we know is the car sat in the field for at least a year and the grass was up to the fender. End condensed version of the background. I have had the car for about 3 years and I am still learning new things each day about it that deserve a (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beer3.gif) or two. Here are some early pics: POR 15 only works if you don't look beyond the surface... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/headbang.gif) |

So, I finally went got some price quotes on paint Monday afternoon. Will 1 gal. of paint cover the car and the bumpers or will I need more?
I have 3 choices (all within my price range): 1) Base coat/clear coat (under $300) 2) Acrylic Urethane (under $200) 3) Acrylic Enamel (under $200) Which should I choose? |

For color you will need 2 quarts. That will yield 1 gal after reducer is added. That will give you about 1 quart left over if all goes well. Clear ? Count on the same or more depending on how well you can paint, and how nice a finish you want. 2 coats of clear is good if it lays out well. 2 quarts plus reducer and hardener With, either single stage I would get 3-4 quarts. It's a little less forgiving to get it layed out slick. You will more than likely need to wet sand it so count on 3-4 coats. As a point of reference I got 3 quarts to do Mikes bus, and have about a quarts left for touch ups. 2.5 coats laid out pretty well, 1st coat wasn't a full coat. Base / clear will look better with less maintenance, SLIGHTLY less chip prone, costs more |
