Still debating to build a 2.0 or 2.4 or 2.7 or say fuch it sell it all and get a 3.0 (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif)
To me the bottom line $$$ looks almost the same. For a 3.0: What would I need to keep for the clutch and PP (9bolt fly) that works on a 901? What would I need to buy from KEP? Should I be grabbing anything else from the donor engine ? I'm looking a a few engines, #1 a 3.2 that's a bit beyond my budget, #2 an unknown 3.0 longblock core, spins fine, I suspect a broke headstud(s) #3 a good used stock 3.0 euro sc with CIS, #4 a hot rod 3.0 with webers newer top end w/JE's I'm reading all the pro's and cons, yes JP.... Santa did bring me Wayne's book (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) What would be your order on my engine choice list above? Cheers (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif) |

CIS is one convoluted mo fo and the SC exhaust was the same. With Webers, headers and a good muffler, 200 hp is well within reach.
I had 9.7:1 Shasta pistons (JE forgings)in my first 2.7L. There was enough cold wall clearance to throw a cat thru....... .004+. They rattled like hell when cold. I think the rings never did seat properly. I pulled it doen after 7 years after a leak down test when WHOOSH. The pistons were still in nice shape but the cly walls were scored......then one of them "deals" on Pelican popped up. I had a set of 10;5:1 Mahle P/Cs within 15 minutes of their posting. Cold wall clearance is .0015 and they came with Gotez rings......not cheep, but by God does it run .....on race gas. A couple pics. The Shastas after tear down & some cleanig & the Mahle pistons. The Shastas are prettier. Attached thumbnail(s) Attached image(s) |
