Not sure why it was shaking so bad but the audio is pretty awful on this camera anyways. Would be nice if it had an external mic hookup. Probably will on the next one. Comes with several different mounts so I have to figure out which one rattles and which one doesn't.

Also this thing needs alot of light to work. Overcast day so it could have looked better.

Is this the Hero Motorsport camera?

Yeah. I also got the bicycle mounts for it.

I don't know why it rattled around so much with the mount I used. I tried it again with the suction cup mount and it didn't rattle. The other mount used double sided sticky tape stuck to the car.

I'm looking for an inexpensive camera that will take an external mic. Any suggestions?

The best option is to do your audio and video to separate devices. The Zoom H4N is a really good device for doing audio. Has 4 channels and 2 good mics built into the device that you can use along with 2 external mics. I have used this with 2 lavs and the onboard and it's terrific.
