I've got a '71, and I'd really like to fit another, smaller steering wheel. However, it appears that there's a difference between the '70-'71 columns and all of the later columns. What exactly is the difference? Can a later hub be machined to fit? Does anyone know of a source of hubs (Momo, Nardi, even Grant, as long as I can get a 13" wheel) for the '70-'71 columns? If not, how big a deal is it to swap to a later column?

BIG deal ... did that on mine while the car was disassembled. - the mounts (4 bolts) to the body are different, later style is much wider but can be cut to fit. - wires, connectors. early cars have completely different guts in the column, meaning your wires/connectors won't fit a later column. - steering "rod" (don't know the right word for it). the shaft that goes down, with the joints in it. the middle shaft is of different length, the column on later cars is actually slightly different in angle and location. you have to use the later style shaft and "grind" new grooves for the locking bolts to sit in. the only reason why i did all this was because i switched to a complete '73 main wiring harness and wanted the column to go with it ...
