My humble opinion, unfettered by scientific research, is that a long hard freeze outdoors is never a problem. Snow doesn't cause rust, water (+ an electrolite) does. But in the NYC/MD area where you go from cold to above freezing throughout the winter you really need to cover up. Keeps the water off and also keeps the interior cold (no greenhouse effect). You won't see surface problems - it is the cracks and crevices and anywhere that condensation occurs. |
