I was able to figure out the day and number durring that day that my car was made!
Door jam number is 4139258 which converts to the 41st week of the year manufactured 3rd day of the week manufactured 92 is the plant number of manfuacture and 58th car that day! That converts to Oct 12th or the 285th day of 1975 and the 58th car off the line that day! Wed is always a good day to have your car made!! |

and for you four cylinder guys: "The 914/4 Karmann number is of the form WWD9ABB
WW is the week of the year D is the day of the week (1 through 5) 9 don't know why it is there, but it never changes A varies predictably; up to Sept 74 it is a base of 5 from Sept 74 it is a base of 0 so early cars: base of 9500 to which is added the daily sequence number late cars: base of 9000 to which is added the daily sequence number therefor you could get 9630 if the car was the 130th that day As you know, for the '75 and up they went with the tag in the front trunk. Some early (August) '75s had the number on the paint tag and in the front trunk with the old base of 9500. It would be very interesting to find the transition point range. There would be a range due to their manufacturing process. The painted bodies were done in color batches, and stored in a warehouse. Later, they would be taken for final assembly where the VIN would be attached. So the chassis numbers could almost be at random. Any change in final assembly that is denoted for a particular VIN would not necessarily be true for changes to the chassis. Who knows how long a chassis may have languished in the warehouse before being assembled, particularly if it was an unpopular color."
