Hello and thank you for looking at my post. I just inherited my grandpa's 1970's Porsche 914 and am trying to get an idea on it's value and I also have some questions. I've included some pictures so all of you experts can share your knowledge. I was told by my grandfather that this is a 1972 model, however, after researching paint colors from that year I could not find this particular color. With that said, my questions are below and I would grealty appreciate and and all feedback. Thanks!

1. What year is this car
2. What is it's approximate value

More imporant info:

1. This car has been stored in California since day 1, thus theres no rust underneath the car

2. The odometer reads 54K and so I am assuming the car has 154k miles on it

3. I was told that the engine was completely rebuilt about 5-7 years ago

If there's any important info I've left out, please let me know and I will try and get it to you guys. Thanks again!

-Franco

Thanks! Keep the info coming (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) Is this a Targa 1.7 or 2.0?

On a side note, I love the 70's style!!

I will get pics of all the #'s suggested above. Looking at the websites provided it looks like the value can range from $7,000-$11,000. Does that sound right?

As noted above - all 914s started as Targas, but some have done mods - including some whacked off convertables, etc.! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/huh.gif)

2.0 didn't come out until 1973 model year, so yours wouldn't be 2.0L unless your Grandpa changed the engine out for a 2.0 or did a 1.7 big bore when it was rebuilt a few years ago. A more common up-build for a 1.7 would be to 1911 cc - so check his paperwork from the shop to see what they did. BTW - the 70-72 1.7s were almost as powerful as the later smogged-up 75-76 2.0s, at 80 vs 88 HP respectively.

The NADA Classic Cars one will give you a better picture, and your Grandpa's wouldn't be at the upper end, cuz those are pretty perfect to fetch $11k for a 72 1.7 like yours.

As we've said - drive it a bit first, you just might like it - ALOT! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/piratenanner.gif)

Get some of the Bay Area 914 folks to help you go over the car for rust & any other issues, as there are a bunch of "Teeners" in your area.
