Soo.. I've posted a few times on here, got my turn signals working fine while I was off with a bugger'd shoulder... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/mad.gif) Now my shoulder is good so its time to dig into this thing... I've now realized that the tar coating the underside of the car was doing a good job of covering up some real big problems.. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/WTF.gif) I have holes in both right and left rear longs, both rockers, front trunk, floors, firewall.. Transmission I'll have to rebuild, but other than leaky pushrod tube and oil cooler seals... the motor runs strong.. I'll post up some pictures, I'm sure you'll all want to see.. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif)
Here is a pic after I drove it home... rear wheels arent folding in and only the right door had a tight gap at the top... didnt look tooo bad when I looked at it.. figured some rocker work and I'd have er' back running in the summer... Attached image(s) |

Well.. Its been a little bit but I've gotten some more work done.. cleaned off the undercoating from the front floor pan and found some more perforation. Not too bad so I just bent up a couple patches and welded them in. Ground down the welds a bit. Not all the way but at least enough so that they aren't too big. I'm still new at welding and I have to perfect my skills so I don't have to grind so much down after ...
I'm on holidays this week and have been told that I can spend the whole week working on the car, as long as I get my eldest daughter off to the school bus stop in the morning... My 8 month pregnant wife is amazingly supportive of me restoring my 914 ( I'm contractually obligated to state this (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) ) I painted the underside the floor with some epoxy primer today. Got the garage/barn up to temp, turned the kerosene heaters off and sprayed. Waited a bit until the paint flashed off and opened the bay door a bit , turned on the fan to blast the fumes out. Closed it back up and turned on the heaters back to temp. I don't have the room for a rotisserie so I'm now painting on my back. Its easier than drilling out spot welds and welding in floor pans on my back, thats for sure. I couldn't get far enough away as I'd like so I have a few drips but I'm not too concerned since its just getting undercoating once its ready. Attached thumbnail(s) |
