This thread is to document the restoration of the newest member of my family. After my 1973 914 2.0L was totaled a month ago I was heartbroken, but out of the ashes(and insurance money) rose Calypso.
She is a 1974 2.0L. It is not fully loaded(no sways, chrome bumpers, or aluminum sills) but is COMPLETELY original. It has a few blemishes that I have found so far, and certainly I will find more as i get to know her better. Attached image(s)

I spent most of the day today detailing the exterior. I washed it, went over it with a clay bar, then went over it with a light buffing compound before using a polishing compound and lastly some caranuba wax.
I did everything by hand, and I had no idea how much work I was getting myself into. I took a bunch of before and after pictures, but the difference just doesn't show up in pictures, so I'll only be posting the after photos. Smooth as glass!    |
