I've had a Pertronix in my 1.8 for 10 years. Really smoothed out the idle. The only down side has already been stated...it is electronic and can fail. A spare is cheap insurance for long trips.
Always heard not to leave the key in the "ON" position or it will burn the Pertronix, but I have left mine one accidentally OVERNIGHT and it was fine. Was probably just lucky that the current didn't spike at all because they are susceptible to "releasing the magic smoke". |
