Hey All,
The last turnout was so great and met a lot of nice 914 people. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smilie_pokal.gif) This time around I thought it would be fun to take some winding roads. We will be meeting at Alice's Cafe in Woodside, CA. The food is pretty dang good here no mishaps this time around since they are always dealing with car clubs and biker people showing up. If you want a good spot id show up a tad earlier because this place is popular for car club meets. Lets make this meet even BIGGER than last time! It doesn't matter the state of you 914 just bring it if its in driving condition projects are always fun to see too. I think a fun drive after would be nice! SOOO, I created a drive map starting from Alices Cafe go down Hwy 84(La Honda Rd) out to the coast then turn left to enjoy a drive down Hwy 1 coastline(will be gorgeous) to Santa Cruz and then back down hwy 17 as a group. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) The drive is about 1h and 20 mins. If its a nice day out it could be a real nice drive without the targa top. Note:I will be notifying Alices Cafe before hand that we will be showing up to ensure they are ready to accommodate a larger group. Date: Saturday May 25th 2013 Time: 9:14am Address: 17288 Skyline Blvd Woodside, CA 94062[ Pictures are panoramas of the last meet. Please repost elsewhere so that we get a good turn out and tell your friends and family that are Porsche people. Cheers, Luke Anker |

I just spoke with my colleague who lives near Ano Nuevo. He said that the road work is between 84 and Pescadero Rd, so that if we turn left on Pescadero Road off of 84 we will avoid the construction zone and be fine. I also recommend that we take Hwy 9 back from Santa Cruz. There is some traffice through the towns, but once you get past the last one, most traffic has exited and there is a very nice windy climb back up to Skyline. People can either descend down Hwy 9 to head home or can go North on Skyline till they get to where they want to drop down (Page Mill, 84, Kings Mtn, 92). Just note that Skyline was repaved with a slurry seal and the road surface is pretty coarse now

And thats great news if we take 84 to pescadero rd. Hwy 1 would be a joy. |

Re. the route: Heartily agree w/ suggestion on taking Pescadero Rd. It has more fun-per-mile compared to 84, and rarely occupied w/ other cars. And IMHO the best of that stretch of 84 is the bit between Alice's & the Pesc. Rd turnoff - so it's win/win. -- One more suggestion on route: IF people have the time & inclination, a really enjoyable alternative to 17, is to take Soquel-SJ Rd, from (guess) Soquel, north to Summit Rd. This parallels 17 and has an excellent surface (I just rode it on my MC two weekends ago). -- And from Summit Rd you can either hop on 17 for the rest of the drive down the hill, OR turn off onto Old S.Cruz Hwy for a few more miles of fun. This puts you out on 17 by Lexington Reservoir and is as much fun as Hwy 9. And another detour opportunity presents, to circle around the 'back'/east side of Lex'tn Resvr. Also a fine, fun road. Something to consider maybe! Here's a googlemaps tracing of the original route + Pescadero Rd - click & drag on the route to modify it, and see the resulting miles/time. Go play. http://goo.gl/maps/PWlgL And the "full Monty", with the detour(s) I suggested and maximizing the non- hwy17 miles -- http://goo.gl/maps/1tfWu Anyway I hope to make it out there tomorrow! mike (IMG:style_emoticons/default/driving.gif) |
