My 914 seat belt retractors don't work very well. I'd like to keep the retractable function. Does anyone repair the retractors? The belts and the rest of the harware seem okay.
Does anyone know anything about the eBay item # 330088556824 belts? Mel |

There I fixed it,
After taking one side apart to see why it did not retract, The spiral spring popped out and parts flew every where. I then carefully took the other side apart (the narrow cap) and carefully slid a putty knife under the cover and over the spring to see how it's supposed to look like in there. If the retraction is getting weak, you can take the spring outer end out of it's slot and wrap several more winds around and replace the spring in the slot. If the spring has come out you have to re-wind it in the opposite direction it got itself into starting from the outside, be patient it ain't easy.. then with the belt fully extended, insert the spring inner end into the hub slot. make sure the little SS washer is in there first between the plastic cup and the spring. If more tension is needed, use the technique above. Here's what it should look like in there with the belt about half way out. |
