Next step for me is setting up my valve train geometry. I searched the web and the World and now I have enough information to know that I need more information. I see a few references to an article Jake had on his now extinct forums. The Facebook page is pretty vast. Can someone point me to this article? I think that's my first step toward comming up with more intelegent questions.
FYI: I'm building a 2056 based on a late case. I have Jake's 9550 cam installed I have swivel feet adjusters mounted on 1.7 rockers with solid spacers I am using SS valves and chromoloy push rods I installed 8x10 rocker studs I have used .065" of shim on the cylinders with no head gasket Thanks! Edited for clarity.
PM Jake and ask him is its still around. Short version: get or make an adjustable pushrod. your cam card tells you what the max valve lift is for the cam. Valve lift = cam lift x rocker ratio. You need to determine what max valve lift will be +5% and -5%. This is your acceptable range. Measure valve lift using a dial indicator on the retaining clip around the valve stem. The indicator should be on the same plane as the valve stem. When you have found the geo that puts lift in your acceptable range, you need to divide that by 2. That is your mid lift point. Set the valve at mid lift and make SURE the valve stem and rocker are completely in line with each other. They need to be on the same plane. The first one will take an hour and be a total bitch of trial and error. The next 7 will take an hour total, with only a little dialing in each to have nailed down. Zach |
