Better gear ratios for V8 engines come from Audi TDI trannies like this one. The TDI's are torqey motors with a higher final drive than the Boxster 6 speed. This makes them ideal for a V8 conversion.
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/AUDI-A6-C5-2-5-V...=item1c40be5d80 This is a 6 speed. from the looks it is a 012 front with a 01E rear section. But Audi & Getrag made trannies with interchangeable parts. The 012 is the same casting as the Boxster 5 & 6 speed. Some Boxster trannies have a different bell housing than this. Now you would have to fab shift linkage for this one but it's easy to copy the Boxster setup. I did this on my 5 speed since it originally came from a Passat not a Boxster and one of the bosses was not drilled and tapped like the Boxster. In this case, you could swap this into a Boxster or my car and it would bolt right on. ebay UK is a great resource to find FWD TDI trannies. As I said before, TNT Shipping air freighted my 6 speed from UK to San Francisco in 4 days for $245. You would only need the seller to strap it to a pallet. |

I see they make an 8 speed gear box as well. Higher final drive, I assume, means that the rpm in road gear is less, like I want? Any pics of the Boxster setup to use as a guide? That type of trans can't be located state side? Not sure what this means: 012 front with a 01E rear section Then I presume there are going to be changes to the axles, adapter plate, flywheel, clutch, etc, again, compared to the Boxster? |
