We'll after over two years of these sitting in the garage (along with a myriad of other crap) I finally had accumulated what I needed to backdate. I bought these at Hershey in 2012, they were in very good shape and the tops were perfect. So l started the week before last and just dug in. I used some of Ken Steele's tutorial which worked out ok, but I found a couple other tricks that made the job go smoother.
For the front, which I did first, I found it best to leave on the valance, as it not only supports the bumper but dictates it's location. However, that thin BUB support rail has to go first; I used a dremel with a thin cutoff disc. I went through 5 or 6 but BFD (as long as we're using acronyms here). It allowed for a very smooth, fine cut. I also removed whatever flanges necessary by starting a shallow pilot hole, and then reaming the sucker out with a 1/2" bit. Worked fine. Since I don't have any friggin clue how to reduce my pic size, see ya next post |
