Hey guys, well here it is. My 71 1.7! I'm anxious to get started. First thing I want to do is sand the body down and start the primer process. First Question, what grit sandpaper should I use to begin with to start to get some surface rust off as well as the old paint? I want to get it down to metal and go from there, inside and out. The car also came with 2 trans and I want to know how I know which one came with the car? Sorry for all of the stupid questions, but I'm a nube! Also gonna post a link to more pictures in a post to follow this. I will also add the VIN number to the database on here...

UPDATE: Thanks to a great heat gun I finally got the engine firewall pad off! Also, tried heat, pb blaster and wd40 on the screws at the bottom of the rocker panels , got fed up and went ninja on them and got them off! GREAT NEWS, NO RUST behind the panels!!! Lots of dirt but no rust in the frame or tub!!

Hate to admit, but I got under the car and just kicked the rocker panel covers until they broke off, then cut the screws and bolts off! Not the proper way to do it but I was pissed off 2 hours into trying to get them off! I'm going back with fiberglass rocker panel covers, so it didn't matter in the end (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) |

Steve was not sure what to do on our tear down day. Now he is going bat shit and tearing the car apart with his bare hands and feet.
