Hmmmm... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/idea.gif)
The LA Lit and Toy Show, March 7th? The SoCal All Porsche Swap and Car Show March 8th? Amelia Island March 13th in Jacksonville, FL? It seems to me that (with a slight detour to Las Vegas) the cities of Albuquerque, Dallas and Mobile might make up a nice romp across the country. Thoughts? Ideas? I think it would be cool to drive a 914 from coast to coast. Especially being a featured mark at Amelia. It would be nice to document it. GoPro, Instagram, Blog??? Maybe a few gear head get togethers along the way? Still thinking about it but... It's beyond intriguing for sure. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/driving.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif) *******************UPDATE****************** The trip is now in stone. Sounds like a fun trip. Wife and I drove from Oregon to NY in 2008 and it was great fun. One thought though; we had planned long driving days as well but found that we tended to cover many fewer miles than we originally thought we would. I think that we might have averaged somewhere around five hundred miles a day, give or take. Mind you this was in our A4, a car that is considerably more comfortable than our 914. But then, our age (in our senior years) might have had an impact too. If you can do it, go for it. It will be a trip you will remember for the rest of your lives. And don't worry about mechanical issues either. I mean, what's more reliable than a Volkswagen!? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/driving.gif)

Did this back in 1976 Pensacola Fl to San Diego in a 74 2.0. Back again San Diego to Pittsburgh in a 70 914 -6. Both times with the wife.....do I get an award for that??
The 74 2.0 trip was liesurely and "pleasant", lots of stops on a loose time frame. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/driving.gif) The way home in the six was leave Saturday morning, starting out pleasant evolving into GET ME THE F... OUTTA HERE!!!! by Saturday afternoon. Iron manned it from there and got home to watch the Steelers on Monday Night Football. The 3000 RPM resonance drone can kill you!!!!! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/w00t.gif) |
